We’re thrilled to have Rick Edwards as our host this year:

rick edwards

Rick began his career on the standup circuit after graduating with a degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University. He now works as a journalist, presenter and screenwriter.  Rick can currently be seen on BBC Three hosting Free Speech, the live current affairs debate show. He has also fronted a number of topical documentaries for the channel – including the highest rating documentary in BBC Three’s history, Oscar Pistorius – What Really Happened? Rick was one of the key members of Channel 4’s Paralympic coverage, co-presenting The Paralympic Breakfast Show with Kelly Cates. Other recent presenting credits include That Paralympic Show, IAAF World Athletics, IAAF World Indoor Championships and Tool Academy for C4 and E4. He was part of the T4 presenting family for four years and hosted a diverse range of programming, from gameshows to movie specials and music series to sports programmes.

Rick’s original standalone film Burger Van Champion was commissioned as part of C4’s Coming Up strand in 2013 and was described by the Observer as ‘a remarkable debut’ and by Time Out as ‘funny, touching [and] superbly written’.  Other credits include Games On a series of comedy shorts starring Tim Key and Tom Basden which Rick wrote for BBC Comedy in 2012; a sitcom pilot Rick and Peter which he created and starred in for C4; and The Boot Sale, a short film starring Joe Wilkinson and directed by Jonathan van Tulleken, which was shortlisted for the Virgin Media Shorts Awards.

Rick has a monthly column in the Observer Magazine, and contributes regularly to the Evening Standard and Huffington Post.

Amongst his other interests are the environment (he is a regular on the Observer Ethical Awards judging panel), mathematics (his mental arithmetic is impeccable), and snooker (highest break: 32).
